Every place is still open for consideration; it seemed that people felt Francis Slocum was more centrally located for NEPAG. That is important because if we're using this event to distribute geocoins, we should try to make this as accessible to everyone as possible, but right now it appears we may have to take what ever is available! Places are booking up fast!

Do we need a pavilion? Other than obvious advantage of electricity we might consider a tent or one of those car cover type shade awnings. I think my father-in-law has one. Anybody else have one of these things? If we put two or three together over some picnic tables or just in a shady area of the park we might be able to get around booking a reservation and it would give us a little more flexibility.

Anything will work, but ideally a pavilion would provide not only shade, but cover from the rain if it's an inclement day. A pavilion also provides tables so we could all sit together as a group, rather than being spread out at tables or chairs. It's much nicer to sit at a table to eat instead of trying to balance your plate on your lap while sitting in a lawn chair! With that said however, we are certainly game for anything, cover or not... just so we can have the event and get those geocoins!

I think a pavilion is a better idea, simply for the fact of having a good solid roof in case of rain, and because of the picnic tables. You need to have something to place the food and other items on, as well as somewhere to sit and eat. People can certainly be responsible for bringing their own chairs (camp chairs, folding chairs), but not everyone has tables to bring. Since we have (I assume) decided to make this an official event listed on gc.com, it will be open to the public. Just NEPAG members alone will mean a large turnout, but add some others and we could see 75 or more people. Too many for tents or make-shift shelters if we end up with downpours that weekend.

We definitely need a pavilion just in case there is bad weather. Last year when we did the RGSP event, we got lucky on the weather & didn't need an unavailable pavilion. That little grouping of tables worked well for the small group we had.
Just tried the PA Parks website. It is having difficulties & I keep getting error messages. I'll see what Hickory Run has to offer for the same weekends in May & June.
One thing I just thought of....if we list this as an event to get NEPAG coins, and people who did not order coins show up, how many extras do we have????

WT, thanks a bunch for doing all the calling around! You're great!
I don't know how many extra coins there are. I know some were ordered (blanks) above the base amount, but new NEPAG members have been placing orders. By event time, maybe not many will be left.

I think hound ordered an extra 40 blanks, but he will have to clarify, I dunno for sure.

I don't even have to call. You can access reservations online for any PA state park. You can even view a map of your campsite, etc...

I'd have to check the numbers, but I initially orderd 40 extra, but now about a dozen of those are already claimed and/or paid for. I fear there won't be many extras by event day, but you never know. I'm just glad we didn't get stuck with a lot of coins and no one coming through. I didn't really worry so much with this group, but when it's your wallet on the line...
