Ticks that is!

Tried to grab a multi today before an appointment, but I was unable to finish. While sitting at a traffic light, I find a little bugger on my hand. While getting my haircut, a feel one crawling on my left arm. Had to stop to get it off and flush it.

Crazy thing was that I was hardly in the woods, just on the edge of a cemetary.

It's going to be a bad year!!

Sprayed down with Off! and went for a quick hike this afternoon with Moun10Girl. Stayed pretty clear until the last 10 minutes when she walked through 30 feet of tall grass and picked up about a dozen! All deer ticks and no wood ticks, too. I've never picked up a deer tick before and am pretty used to the wood tick so this freaked me out!

I have already had to get one off of each of my dogs. Well the two that get them. My Newfoundland and the long hair chihuahua. The short hair chihuahua usually dosen't get them. But I check every day anyway. I think I will have to order one or two tick keys on my next GxProxy order.

South of the Blue Mountain they have been active all winter. I keep a pill bottle with a bit of rubbing alcohol in the bottom on my desk for the ones I pick off myself and the dog.

We also picked up ticks already this year ~ got both of our Geodogs their first two lyme shots.

We also are dedicated to taking the time to put their frontline on faithfully each month.

However, even with usinf "Off" - we have had to pick them off ourselves!

Re:They're Here. 1 Year, 2 Months ago
We don't have any pets as of last year as they've all passed on from old age, but I thought I might include an interesting bit of info on...

I was reading the box on a flea and tick collar (Hartz?) and it mentioned having an advantage over Frontline and other monthly defenses. Apparently, while the monthly treatments keep the kids from getting bitten, it doesn't protect them from picking up hitchhikers and dropping them off in the house. However, pets who where the regular collars leave microscopic traces all over the house and this supposably bug proofs or at least reduces the chances of a tick trying to get in or sticking around.

I have no idea how realistic this is, but it is food for thought and I see there are a lot of forums discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each. Does anyone know of any really good solid tests that have been conducted?
